SERVICES

Osteopathic Treatment
Your treatment plan is developed for you and with you.
During your first appointment you will receive a full evaluation related to your pain and how this affects your life. It is important to appraise us regarding your medical history and current lifestyle. Your treatment will include physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.

Acupuncture
Medical Acupuncture or Dry Needling involves the insertion of very fine needles using anatomical and physiological knowledge.
It is used to treat muscle pain and is also useful for post-operative pain, nausea, and inflammation.
You may feel a tingling when the needles are inserted but you should not experience any significant pain.
It is common to feel sleepy or light-headed after treatment so a drink of water and a restful period is often recommended.

Imaging and Referrals
Your treatment plan may require further tests, such as blood tests or scans, either prior to commencing hands on treatment or possibly in addition.
You may have symptoms that require referral to your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.
MRI, diagnostic ultrasound or other imaging may be required to confirm or assist with your diagnosis.
You can be referred for imaging directly from our clinic.
Aviva Osteopathy specialises in the management of chronic and acute musculoskeletal and related pain through the use of non-invasive, non pharmaceutical techniques. This can include manual therapy, medical acupuncture, electrotherapeutic modalities such as TENS or ultrasound, kinesio -taping, functional exercises and lifestyle advice.
The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as "…unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that is associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in such terms." That definition continues: "Pain is always subjective."
Your treatment plan will be formulated specifically towards your own unique experience to optimize self-healing by balancing your musculoskeletal framework in consideration of your current lifestyle, previous injuries, prescribed medications, nutrition, ergonomics, and emotions.
All treatment approaches are discussed with you to find which are most suitable in your individual case in order to have the most impact on the physiological, emotional and cognitive dimensions of your pain.
